A Personal Journey

How Rays of Hope In All Colors
Family Support Network Began

A Founding Story of Faith, Family, Service and Hope

Rays of Hope In All Colors Family Support Network was born from my personal journey of faith, family, caregiving, illness, loss, and the incredible love shown to my family during some of our most difficult seasons.

My husband passed away in January 2008. Becoming a widow taught me firsthand about grief, adjusting to an unexpected life change, and continuing forward while carrying the love and memory of someone who meant so much to me.

Years later, our family faced another challenging season. In October 2022, my brother temporarily moved into my home. At that time, he had already lost one leg. My daughter, who has cerebral palsy, lived at home and required full-time care. My two grandsons were also there, and my son helped our family whenever he was not working.

Then, in November 2022, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

My mother moved into my home and became a mother wearing many hats. She helped care for my daughter, supported my two grandsons, assisted my brother, and helped hold our entire family together while I underwent chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, and the other treatments necessary for my healing. My mother never missed a single one of my medical appointments. No matter how difficult or exhausting the journey became, I never heard her say, "This is too hard," "I need help," or "I need a break." She never complained. She simply continued showing up, caring for our family, encouraging me, and walking beside me through every appointment and every stage of my treatment. Her strength, sacrifice, faithfulness, and unconditional love became one of the greatest rays of hope during my journey.

Family members and friends were also a tremendous blessing to our household. They brought us full-course meals, gave me rides to my treatments, and assisted wherever they were needed. The prayers, telephone calls, encouraging text messages, and many acts of kindness were amazing. God used each person to remind us that we were not alone.

While I was still going through treatment, my brother lost his remaining leg and became a double amputee. Our family was facing cancer, disability, caregiving responsibilities, grief, and major life changes - all under one roof. Nevertheless, God continued to provide.

In January 2024, I completed my breast cancer treatments and became a survivor.

In April 2025, my brother was blessed to move into his own apartment that is accessible and equipped to meet all his needs. This was an important new beginning for him and another reminder of God's continued provision for our family.

Everything my family experienced helped plant the seed for Rays of Hope In All Colors Family Support Network.

I knew firsthand what it meant to need prayer, encouragement, transportation, meals, caregiving assistance, helpful resources, and people willing to walk beside you during an overwhelming season.
I also understood how one act of compassion could become a ray of hope in someone's darkest moment.

In May 2026, I began a new breast cancer journey. My mother is now back in my home full-time, once again helping our family in countless ways. Yet, even while I continue this personal journey, the work of Rays of Hope has not stopped.

The nonprofit continues moving forward, serving individuals and families affected by disabilities and illnesses - seen and unseen - and connecting them to community, educational, and financial resources with compassion, dignity, and hope.

Through every loss, diagnosis, caregiving responsibility, prayer, meal, ride, telephone call, text message, and helping hand, God has shown me the power of people coming together. Rays of Hope is an extension of the love and support my family received.

We remain committed to being the hands and feet of Jesus - showing up for people, walking beside families through difficult seasons, and reminding them that they do not have to face life's challenges alone.
